“This is basically the first and only theatre touring show celebrating the rise to fame and music of Shakin Stevens, ending in a concert that he would have performed in the late 80s.”
Rebel Dean (BBC Casualty, West End, London Palladium) stars with live band and projection screen.
“The first half follows the steps to stardom of the young Welshman, through his 70s touring band era. The second half is a full concert (including the famous denims and pink jacket) as would have been seen during the late 80s including all the hits “Green Door”, “This ole House”, “Oh Julie”, “You drive me Crazy” and many more.”
Rebel said: “ I first wrote this show back in 1988 when I was starring in The West End for Bill Kenwright in a very successful rock musical called 4 Steps to Heaven. I was about to star as Elvis in Elvis the Musical for Bill Kenwright straight after that on a UK Tour and thought that there have been musicals about Buddy Holly,Roy Orbison, Elvis and others and none for our own homegrown Welsh rocker! I have been so busy touring 200 shows a year with other shows, making albums, videos and featuring in films (see www.rebeldean.com) to actually get around to making the dream a reality, until now.
“I was lucky enough to meet Shakin Stevens in 2000 and was always a big fan. He seemed like a very nice man when I met him, which fuelled my idea even more.
“He had more hits in the 80s decade than any other artist in the UK, approaching 40 top 40 hits.. So there is a wonderful collection of songs to draw on that will have the memories flooding back for those of us who lived through that 80s-90s era.
“I’ve had over the years so many people say how similar we are on stage and even his family complimented me when we played Cardiff St David’s Hall, similarly when I met them afterwards.”
