THE first meeting of 2008 brought with it the sad news of the death of Zoe Rundle, one of our most supportive members. She will be greatly missed.

The January meeting is always very busy with organising annual subscriptions, and arranging meetings for the craft, knitting and scribblers sub-sections. There has always been great support for ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World) and arrangements are being made for the annual afternoon - open to the public - to be held in Sidley Community Centre on March 7 from 2-4pm where there will be cake and book stalls as well as tea and cakes.

The proceeds from this will be handed in at the East Sussex Federation annual council meeting in The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne on March 19.

In spite of the meeting being extra busy we found time to hear from one of our members, Elizabeth Allday, recounting her life in the Foreign Office. She had many experiences, some quite hair-raising as she worked in Rangoon and Bankok as well as London.

Prospective new members and visitors are always welcome. We meet on the second Friday of each month at 2.15pm at the Sidley Community Centre.
