Singer songwriter and a more reflective mood

An intimate evening of music is promised by Music’s Not Dead and the De La Warr Pavilion when James Yorkston performs in the cafe bar on Monday December 7.

A native of Fife, James Yorkston was an early member of the Fence Collective whose reach across contemporary music continues to lengthen - King Creosote, The Aliens, KT Tunstall, The Beta Band and The Pictish Trail.

Yorkston is primarily a singer-songwriter, although he also tackles a variety of traditional songs.

He started out as bassist for punk band Miraclehead, but his solo career began when John Peel played his demo of Moving Up Country, Roaring the Gospel, claiming it had the “song title of the year.”

At this time Yorkston had started to play solo gigs in Edinburgh – his debut supporting Bert Jansch in the Café Royal. Seeking more shows, Yorkston sent his single to John Martyn, asking for a support slot on his forthcoming Edinburgh date, and Martyn responded by offering all 27 dates on his nationwide tour.

Yorkston also played at the inaugural Green Man Festival.

Having released his eighth studio album for Domino Records, The Cellardyke Recording and Wassailing Society, James goes into more intimate territory; arguably his most personal record yet, these are reflective songs about life closer to home, fatherhood and people dear to his heart.
