Singer / songwriter from Burgess Hill leads European Holocaust Memorial Service in Brussels today

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day today (January 27) singer / songwriter Julie Hall from Burgess Hill is performing as a soloist on behalf of the European Coalition of Israel at the Ecumenical Holocaust Memorial Service.

The service is taking place in the Chapel of Europe at the heart of the European Community in Brussels and includes a speech by the Vice President of the European Parliament, testimonies from holocaust survivors, prayer and reflection.

Julie, who has composed arrangements for two psalms for violin and voice, said: “It is a huge honour for me to have been asked to play for the international holocaust memorial with the Vice President of the European Parliament delivering a speech, representing the rest of Europe.

“It is vital to remember that the Holocaust happened on European soil, and we must never let it happen again.  

“Remembering, and hearing the stories of the survivors is so important.  

“To play my music in this arena is probably one of the most significant things I will ever do.”

Julie Hall lives in Burgess Hill and trained at the Royal Northern College of Music in voice and violin.

She teaches violin and also takes music classes for babies and young children. Julie has recorded five studio albums which have been well received in the music press.

Her music blends the Celtic tradition with her strong Christian faith.

Julie travels widely leading worship in Europe and has recently returning from the USA.

An advocate for trade justice, Julie is secretary of the Burgess Hill Fairtrade Town Group and will be leading worship at the Fairtrade Service in Burgess Hill in March.

Julie will also be one of the Judges in The One (the Mid Sussex bands and singers competition) taking place in February and March this year in Burgess Hill.
