Soprano Rhiannon offers Birdham recital

Aspiring soprano Rhiannon Merrifield is offering a recital on Saturday, April 26 at 7.30pm in St James’ Church, Birdham in aid of the MS Society and the church annexe fund.

“I am hoping to go to musiccollege in London or Manchester or one of those prestigious places to further my career,” says Rhiannon, who is currently on a gap year.

“I want to do vocal studies. I want to see if I can pursue my dream.”

For the recital, Rhiannon will be joined by baritone Jay Jupe who is studying at the Royal North College of Music in Manchester and by Emily Hall, a flautist, studying at the Royal Holloway.

“We all met at South Downs College where we were studying music for A levels,” says Rhiannon, who lives in Birdham.

“The recital is called a spring recital and is starting off with early music from Purcell through to Mozart and a bit of Faure. The first half is mainly classical. The second half is a bit more upbeat and modern, with a little nod to the First World War.”
