Staff’s favourites shown in exhibition

Rob Collins, museum operations supervisor, explains: “We decided to reward our hardworking team of staff and volunteers by inviting them to select their very favourite art works from the museum’s celebrated collection. We also asked them to comment on why they like them - everyone from regular museum and art gallery volunteers to historic collections curators; museum manager to customer services; art and exhibitions curators to administration.

“We are a relatively-small team of staff for the extensive services and facilities we provide to over 55,000 visitors (and reaching a further 50,000 people in the community) each year at the county’s largest museum and art gallery! That’s just seven full-time and four part-time staff, but we are also actively assisted by many volunteers.

“My colleagues manage an art collection that is remarkable in its depth and diversity.

“Normally, my priority is the display of the artwork rather than its content. It is, then, a real pleasure to have the opportunity to choose those that I particularly like and also to try and put into words why. I hope you agree.

“Here, in our first floor Norwood Gallery visitors can expect to find a refreshingly eclectic mix of pictures and ceramics by well known and not so well known artists.”
