String trio concert

The next event at the Bognor Regis Music Club will be a string trio recital by the Blackman Trio, featuring Frida Backman (violin), Ruth Beedham (cello) and Marcus Andrews (piano) on Saturday, April 16.

Club spokesman Chris Coote said: “Marcus Andrews in well known to the club. Born in Pagham, he studied locally with Yvonne Dinwiddy, with Simon Young at Trinity College of Music and with Neil Larrabee at the University of Connecticut. He is a professor of piano at Blackheath Conservatoire and a staff accompanist at Trinity College.”

Frida Backman comes from Finland and recently performed the Sibelius violin concerto with St Paul’s Sinfonia. She is guest leader of Bristol’s professional orchestra, the Emerald Ensemble

Ruth Beedham studied at Trinity College of Music where she won the Leonard Smith prize for string duo and also gained a scholarship to continue her studies with Natasha Patlutskya on the postgraduate diploma course.

The concert includes works by Beethoven, Bridge, Shostakovich and Piazzolla and starts at 7.30.pm in the club’s concert room at 2 Sudley Road. Entry at the door is £7 for members (£9 visitors).

New members and guests are especially welcome.
