Summer of singing

Chichester can look forward to a summer of singing thanks to choral expert Arthur Robson, principal lecturer in music and director of choral studies at the University of Chichester.

In his determination to get everyone singing whether complete beginner or experienced amateur, Arthur will, this July, be repeating his popular Come And Sing day at the University as well as running a new one-day course for beginners or those new to singing at West Dean College called Finding Your Voice – Singing For Beginners’.

Spokeswoman Penny Smith said: “Come And Sing is an all-day event directed by Arthur which will take place in the Chapel of the Ascension at the University of Chichester on July 2. The chosen works this year are Handel’s My Heart is Inditing and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass.

“He will be assisted by his son, Timothy Robson. The event is open to singers of all ages and abilities. Music is available and lunch can be booked in advance. The purpose of the day is to ensure everyone enjoys the chance to sing with a large group, with expert tuition and in a relaxed environment.”

No auditions are required and so anyone with a secret desire to sing has the opportunity to do so. Application forms for singers and tickets for the evening performance are available from the Festivities Box office and from Polly Robson on 01243 823481 or by email [email protected].

West Dean College has invited Arthur to run a new one day course called Finding Your Voice -singing For Beginners’ on Sunday, July 10.

“This is a chance for those who have ‘lost their voice’ through lack of time, opportunity or confidence to spend an enjoyable day learning popular songs, rounds and folk songs in a relaxed atmosphere in the stunning location of West Dean House, located in the South Downs National Park near Chichester. To book a place contact 0844 4994408 or e-mail [email protected].”
