This is an impressive programme, chosen to exploit all the colours on the renowned Father Willis organ. Refreshments are available in the interval, and tickets are £8 at the door.

Jonathan Allsopp, Organ Scholar at Durham Cathedral, gave a sparkling concert the previous Monday, with music ranging from J. S. Bach to a piece by Macmillan written in 1998.

This was very reminiscent of Messaien complete with twittering birds. The contrasts between the staple repertoire and this very modern piece emphasise just what the organ is capable of.

There were also lovely lyrical pieces included in the concert, played by a young organist at the start of his career, and possessed of truly Flying Fingers. By Marion Lovell.
