Arts festival opens

Festival spokeswoman Jan Swabey said: “The singing classes will feature all the younger singers in our area who regularly surprise us with their versatility and talent. The morning session begins with singers of ten, 11, 12 and 13 in a varied programme of classes. Then in the afternoon we begin with three classes featuring singers of nine and under – sometimes a long way under!

“Later on that day we have the popular evening Disneyworld section where all young singers perform one of their favourite songs from a Disney film or show – definitely a great entertainment for all ages from grandparents to small siblings. There might be a few twinkly lights too!

“There is then a chance to hear some budding popstars and, to round off an exciting first day, we have some costumed show songs. Switch the TV off and give live music a chance. Session tickets are available on the door and the young singers would really appreciate your support. As for the instrumental section at the Emmanuel Church & Centre: “It promises to be a great day with an eclectic mix of accordion, woodwind, brass, strings and guitar entries. Classes range from competitive at different ages and levels to the new non-competitive class. Coming up in May is the classical guitar section, and the syllabus is available on our website www.wmaaf.org.”
