Arundel Festival 2012: Peeping Tom

TWO lonely people come together in rather unusual circumstances in Peeping Tom…, a comedy by Sylvia Thompson at the Arundel Jailhouse during the Arundel Festival.

The two-hander will be performed by the two actors in last year’s sell-out Same Time Next Year, Collin Baxter and Beth McGee Russell (August 22, 23, 25 and 26 at 7.30pm)

“It’s written by a girl I have only recently met,” said Collin.

“I don’t think she is a serious writer, but I think she should definitely be going into it. She saw me and Beth last year and then sent us this piece saying it would be good for me and Beth to do.”

It will certainly be a challenge for Beth who will be playing a homosexual man.

“She has got a goatee that we have managed to blag from the Chichester theatre,” said Collin.

“The premise is that Beth plays this gay man that is a bit of a writer, but also a bit of a nerd.

“He has got no social life, is very lonely and is a bit of a Peeping Tom from his window.

“He notices a guy who is a prostitute in the hotel opposite. He notices that he is getting clients in his room, and he complains to the landlord about him.

“The rent boy is thrown out of his apartment at two o’clock in the morning – and turns up on the nerd’s doorstep.

“I play the rent boy.

“He is very streetwise and he knows exactly how to play it. I am homeless and I know just the way to work all my charms. It starts with threats and becomes charms.

“It just turns out that these are two very lonely people.”
