Cabaret rounds off year

Worthing-based Kompact Theatre finish the year with a Kompact Cabaret at The Charles Dickens, Heene Road, Worthing, on Thursday, December 29 (doors 7.30pm, show 8pm).

Formed in 2009 with the idea of producing compact, contemporary musical theatre, the company focuses on using material by contemporary composers who create work for smaller casts.

Spokeswoman Amy Spicer said: “The result is innovative work that often challenges the barriers instilled by traditional musical theatre.

“In 2010 the company decided to strip back their productions even further to become increasingly KOMPACT and so presented an evening of alternative cabaret at the Brighton Ballrooms in November. With the success of this performance, we continue to perform our Kompact Cabaret evenings at venues across Sussex and London.

“2011 has seen Kompact secure London engagements at The Kings Head, Islington, The Horse, Waterloo and The Battersea Barge, alongside home-coming shows at The Charles Dickens and Tokyo 31.

“Kompact boasts an experienced cast and production team whose training includes East 15, ALRA, The London College of Music, Arts Ed, Royal Academy of Music, Mountview and STAC. Performance, production and directorial credits span stage and screen all across the UK, Europe and further afield in Japan, USA and Australia.

“Our final show for 2011 sees a return to our roots. Tickets are just £5 and can be purchased on the door, or online at kompacttheatre.co.uk.”

The line-up includes Hannah Spicer, Amy Spicer, Danyl Turvey, Sophie Mills and Will Morgan.
