Building on its growing reputation as an established, quality venue for comedic performers and singers the waiting list of acts wishing to perform before its famously friendly and engaging audience continues to grow.

The club’s owner and producer Daniel Kington said: “As acts come through the town and enjoy a really successful gig with us they pass the word around to other acts. The club has acquired a reputation for having good audiences, open-minded and well-up for the material being delivered. It’s our audiences who are the real stars of the show and who support us wonderfully by returning again and again.”

He was also full of praise for the good service and professionalism of the Hotel management and staff who work hard to ensure both performers and audience are comfortable and welcome.

“This in turn motivates good comedians to want to perform in Haywards Heath,” he said, “despite the travel from London, or for that matter much further afield.”

Some comedians have found they can perform at a show in London before travelling down to repeat their act in Haywards Heath the same night. Plans to expand the club to other venues in the region also continue, with the most successful comedians who have appeared at the Birch poised to make their debut at prestigious new locations elsewhere in the New Year.

Danny’s Comedy Club features another top-notch gathering of talent at its show on Friday, October 25, at the Birch Hotel in Haywards Heath.

This month’s headliner, award-winning comic Jo Public has been performing for three years now and runs her own club Jolly Comedy in Worthing. She recently made the semi-finals of national competition Funny Women, with her likeable, self-deprecating personality that instantly comes across with a fun and energetic delivery, lightly seasoned with hints of sarcasm.

Opening the show will be the delightful Laura Lexx. A west-country comedian, actress and writer Laura is described as a “next generation Lucy Porter” who indulges her audience in an unrelenting childish attention. After a whirlwind introduction to the London comedy scene which saw her reach the national finals of both the Chortle and Paramount student competitions in her first year, Laura has since been a popular act at clubs across the UK and a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe.

A talented comedian, broadcaster and writer for radio and television, Gavin Inskip has been a presenter for Channel Four, T4 and as an announcer on BBC3, Discovery Channel, Channel Five, MTV and Dave. He was involved at the inception of CBBC and has presented shows on Galaxy, BBC Radio 7, BFBS and Capital Radio including Live 8. He has worked as a studio warm-up comedian and has supported top stars like Russell Kane and Jon Culshaw. He has done voiceovers for TV shows as diverse as Lee Nelson’s Well Funny People and BBC Crimewatch. Gavin’s pet dog Holly was cousin to Rolly in Eastenders.

Warm, upbeat and much in demand with comedy clubs across the country, Midlands-based Mickey Nuttall will be coming to the show by camper van.

Brighton-based Hilary Gandhi has taken her Nevada-dry style to London, along the south coast and this year returned to her native north for some summer gigs. A regular at the Chortle national comedy award heats, Hilary specialises in prozac-deprived observational sets as well as off-beat one liners.

“Cheerful, warm, upbeat... she’s not,” so says Louise Dean, a rising talent on the regional comedy scene, who looks at life when it doesn’t turn out as expected. She is a fresh new act already proving popular with audiences.

This month’s singer will be Brighton-based John Zonn, who describes himself as a seasoned amateur, whose natural strengths seem to lie in his adaptability and inventiveness. As well as being an avid home-recorder, his vocal and guitar live performances usually involve some elaborately descriptive and often comedic asides. John has been in demand across London and the south-east as well as further afield.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8.30pm.

The Club features comfortable, cabaret-style seating, a reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite.
