This bright, heart-warming show set in 1960s New York is certainly one not to be missed!

Sweet Charity tells the story of the eternal optimist Charity Hope Valentine, a taxi dancer at the seedy Fandango Ballroom. She wants to be loved so much that she has lost sight of who she is and always ends up giving her heart, and her earnings, to the wrong man. Charity sings, dances, laughs and cries her way through romances in this poignant and sophisticated show, which captures the rhythms, sounds and fun of New York.

The original stage production was directed and choreographed by the renowned Bob Fosse, and his influence can be seen in the innovative choreography by DDOS newcomer Aimee Marie Bow. With music by the great Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, this quirky 60’s musical includes toe-tapping favourites such as Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, The Rhythm of Life, There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This and Baby, Dream Your Dream.

Kate Chapman, who plays the glamorous and fiery Ursula March, explains why she has loved being involved in this production,

“I am genuinely excited about bringing the show to the Dorking Halls and really hope everyone supports us - and comes to have a bright and fun night out! The modern staging of this classic 60s show is sure to be really exciting and what a wonderful cast we have - a real mix of experience, enthusiasm, natural talent, commitment, kindness and fun.”

This well known story is a tender, poignant and consistently funny look at one woman’s adventures, or rather, misadventures in the ways of love.
