Hidden work is given an outingby music circle

Spokeswoman Jill Elsworthy explained: “The piece for six players was written by John Ireland who in his latter years lived under the lee of Chanctonbury Hill and is buried in Shipley Churchyard.

“The concert will be given by one of the finest chamber ensembles in the country, London Concertante.

“They have played for the Circle on two previous occasions to great acclaim.

Founded in 1991, the ensemble soon established a reputation for inspired programming, thrilling performances and the unique rapport it builds with its audience.

“As a chamber music group London Concertante has performed throughout the UK for music clubs and festivals, giving around 100 concerts each year.

“Tours have taken them to the USA, Finland, Spain and France, and will be embarking on a tour to the Middle East in 2013.

“As well as giving performances at festivals, music clubs and theatres, London Concertante also has a thriving education programme; inspiring youngsters to enjoy classical music, both as listeners and performers.”

Its members Adam Summerhayes and Bartosz Woroch - violins, Emma Sheppard - viola, Chris Grist - cello, Elizabeth Drew - clarinet and Mark Smith - horn are offering a real treat with three masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire, Jill added.

“They will play the Horn Quintet by Mozart, Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet and John Ireland’s Sextet for Clarinet, Horn and Strings.”
