Last laughs of the year at Danny’s Comedy Club

Owner and producer Danny Kington is bringing back some popular acts from 2013, as well as critically acclaimed performers currently taking the comedy scene by storm at top venues across the UK.

“We are bringing to Haywards Heath acts who are at the top of their game, whose careers are heading towards stardom in their own right,” he said.

Many of the seven comedians (and singer) performing on Friday have appeared on television and at West End theatres and have supported famous names in the industry.

West country comedian, actress and writer Laura Lexx is a uniquely gleeful performer who indulges her audience in an unrelenting childish attention. After a whirlwind introduction to the London comedy scene, which saw her reach the finals of both the Chortle and Paramount student competitions in her first year, Laura has since been a popular act at clubs across the UK and a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Also back is Stephen Bailey, who proved popular with Danny’s audience a year ago. Deemed “truly unique,” by presenter Jane MacDonald, he has been the warm-up act for ITV’s Loose Women and is a firm favourite on the Edinburgh Fringe.

Stu Turner is a consummate performer who blends comedy and magic with absolute nonsense. His offbeat act is intelligent, sometimes surreal... but always baffling and highly entertaining.

Guitar-wielding Jason Simmons has been performing since 2011 and is already opening shows for a clutch of the country’s leading comedy clubs.

A peculiar combination of camp butchness, Danny Hurst is probably the only orthodox Jewish, bisexual, left-handed, vegetarian Manchester City fan currently on the circuit. Once a professional stilt-walker and fire eater, he toured with the Top Ten band Dodgy in 1996 and has performed all over the UK, as well as recent tours of Japan and the South of France, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

Comedian and writer Jake Lambert started performing comedy in 2013 after gaining a following on Twitter under the pseudonym @LittleLostLad. Six months later, he rocketed to the Semi-finals of The BBC New Comedy Awards, allowing him to perform on both BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 2. Jake has sold jokes, written bespoke material for comedians and has supported celebrity comedian Matt Richardson on the Reading leg of his UK tour.

Anti-Duhring Battalion is a very original character comedian. AKA Dave Moran, he exploded onto the comedy scene just over a year ago. He has his own comedy Radio Show on London Hott Radio, ‘The Anti-Duhring Battalion Radio Show’. He gigs all over the country for Mirth Control and others.

Well-known local singer Tania Rodd has performed in the West End and across the UK, including performances at the House of Lords and some of the Royal Jubilee events. She has also appeared at venues in Europe and the United States in various musicals, shows and concerts. These include the musical Buddy, The Patsy Cline Story, Return to the Forbidden Planet and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. A multi-talented musician, Tania plays the saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano.

This month’s show is at the Birch Hotel, Lewes Road, Haywards Heath, on Friday, November 28. Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain-up at 8.30pm. The club features comfortable, cabaret-style seating, a reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite. Admission is £7 on the door with tickets also available in advance at the Birch Hotel reception.
