Littlehampton search for young lover destined for the West End

WHEREFORE art thou, Romeo? That is the cry that has gone out from a Littlehampton theatre school, but a Juliet would be just as acceptable.

The search for one of the star-cross’d lovers will ultimately see them perform on a West End stage later this year.

And they will also win a scholarship for six months of free classes with Littlehampton Razzamataz.

The school is holding auditions on Sunday (February 25), and the winner will join other Littlehampton Razzamataz students performing a dance, drama and singing piece on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London in November, at a gala charity show.

Anyone who thinks that they have what it takes to claim the Shakespearian-based role should call Littlehampton Razzamataz principal Jeanette Bowman on 01903 715249 or e-mail [email protected] to arrange an audition by no later than Saturday.

Participants should state whether they will be performing their own material or if they would like to be taught/given something by one of the school’s tutors. Candidates need to perform a verse and chorus of a musical theatre song, a short dance routine or a short scripted piece no longer than three minutes.

Auditions are at The Littlehampton Academy, Hill Road, from 1.30-4.30pm and are for ages between 11-17.

Participants are also welcome to join in Razzamataz classes in dance and singing, including musical theatre styles and commercial/pop.

Jeanette said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for children in the Littlehampton area.

“We like to encourage boys as well as girls to take up performing arts and Razzamataz offers the latest trends including street dance, as well as traditional musical theatre styles.”

Joining Jeanette to judge at the auditions will be three of her former students from a stage school she used to run in Surrey, who have just finished performing in West End shows including Mama Mia!, Joseph and Legally Blonde.
