Company spokesman Martin Love said: “The Canterville Ghost is set in a gothic English stately home, Canterville Chase, which has been haunted for hundreds of years by the cursed Sir Simon De Canterville.

“Sir Simon has been highly successful in frightening away all his descendants from their ancestral home until a brash American family move in.

“Despite the impassioned warnings of the house-keeper, Mrs Umney, the Otis family fail to be the least bit frightened by Sir Simon’s efforts. When the teenage twins taunt him beyond endurance, the poor ghost sinks into depression and retreats into his lair.

“The Canterville Ghost is a hilarious show based on the story by Oscar Wilde and adapted for stage by Peter Quilter. This production, by the Henfield Theatre Company, will appeal to all ages, bringing to life Wilde’s biting wit and sparkling conversation with lovely music and lyrics by Charles Miller.

“Dave Barnett, the musical director, has had an interesting time liaising with the original composer to obtain and interpret suitable orchestrations for the Henfield production. The show is directed by Sue Locke and choreographed by Emma Desbruslais.”

Performances are Wednesday to Saturday, May 13 to 16, at 7.30pm, at The Henfield Hall. Box office: Henfield Furnishings, High Street, Henfield, 01273 490080. Tickets are £10 and £12.
