New play ‘Out of Nowhere’

A new play is brought to life by the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre: Scene Change when they stage Out Of Nowhere at the Mill Studio, Guildford, from Thursday to Saturday, February 16 to 18.

Two children appear out of nowhere. They can’t, or won’t, speak and know nothing of the modern world. Nobody knows who they are, where they’ve come from or what to do with them.

An unbreakable bond unites the two children as they struggle to understand what is happening to them and become more dependent on their teacher. The fragile balance between the three of them is threatened when one of the children proves to be far quicker at learning and adapting.

Out of Nowhere emerged directly from the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre, directed by Adam Forde, written by Lizzie Bourne and with work devised by Scene Change.

Lizzie Bourne was a long-standing member of the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre. Her last show on the main stage was Arabian Nights in 2005. She studied English at Nottingham University before taking a masters in playwriting at Edinburgh University.

Yvonne Arnaud head of youth Adam Forde explains: “In the summer of 2011, I was so pleased to hear from Lizzie when she asked to come and write a new play for the youth theatre she had been a part of for so long. It’s great to be able to give former members such opportunities and very rewarding when they are able to come back and work with us.”

Adam added: “The group have responded brilliantly to Lizzie and the ideas we have been exploring. They’ve come up with some really interesting ideas and many of those have been incorporated within the play.”
