Schoolboys star in panto

THREE boys from Shoreham Beach Primary School will appear in Adur Theatre Company’s panto Treasure Island this January at The Shoreham Centre.

They successfully auditioned before director Tony Bright who visited the school earlier in the year searching for three boys to play Robert, Louis and Steven in Robert Louis Stevenson’s swashbuckling adventure of pirates and buried gold.

Their head teacher Bob Woodman will play Fairy Godmother and the pantomime will be watched by the entire school at a special weekday performance for pupils so they can cheer on their head teacher and school chums.

Amanda Solomon. chairman of Adur Theatre Company, said: “This is the first time we have added an extra performance for a local school and we hope to be able to offer special performances to other schools in future years. We are delighted to welcome three of the pupils from Shoreham Beach Primary into the cast and, of course, their head teacher Bob Woodman.

“This is Bob’s first scheduled production with Adur theatre Company, although she saved the day for us several years ago when a leading member of our company was taken into hospital two days before we started our performance run. Bob had only 48 hours to learn the words and her cues before performing to packed houses. She was fantastic.

“Following Adur Theatre Company’s tradition of performing pantomimes with an unusual theme (past productions include Panto of The Opera, Panto at The OK Corral and Frankenstein – the panto) Treasure Island provides an exotic setting with all the traditional panto characters involved in Jim Hawkins’s search for buried treasure.”

Treasure Island – the pantomime, will be performed at The Shoreham Centre from January 12-14. Tickets are available on 01273 591933 or www.adurtheatre.co.uk.
