Showroom administrator becomes performer in childhood project

Predator... Finishing Off What I Started When I Was Five will be at the ShowRoom at the University’s Chichester campus on Thursday, January 19 at 7.30pm (tickets £4, conc £3, age 15 plus).

“At five years old my brother and I snuck downstairs after my parents had gone to bed and taped the film Predator off the TV,” Andy explains. “We would watch the film religiously thereafter and began creating our own version.

“What started out as a scene-for-scene re-creation soon turned into our own re-imagining. Unfortunately we never finished what we had started. So here’s my chance!”

Andy and his brother used coat hangers and washing lines and whatever they could share, but the turning point came when they moved house and Andy’s brother acquired his own bedroom, after which they never returned to the project.

“It was always a childhood regret that we never finished off the film.”

Now, with a little bit of help from three audience members, Andy will finish off what’s been in the making for 20 years.

“We will be using some of the same techniques that my brother and I started with, as well as bringing to life and realising the fantasy that we wished

we were able to achieve in 1991.

“Please, sit down and join me at my table, as we play with remote control cars, action men, puppets and our own imaginations to complete our own version of the film Predator and finally finishing off what I started when I was five.

“It’s just the idea of really losing yourself and getting involved with silliness and just going back to that childhood moment when you were playing with your sibling...”

The show is a splinter project for Bootworks Theatre company which has been going for 11 or 12 years now and of which Andy is a director.
