Startling adaptation of David Almond's Heaven Eyes comes to Crawley

The show starts at 7pm on Friday, March 10.

A spokesperson said: “Erin and January have run away from the care home before, but this time they’re not going back.

“With their friend Mouse in tow, they head downriver on a makeshift raft. Washed up on the mudflats, they meet a strange and dream-like girl, Heaven Eyes, and Grampa, who wields an axe and digs for treasures in the black mud.

“As Erin befriends Heaven Eyes, January’s suspicions about the old man grow. What is the secret he’s hiding?”

Heaven Eyes has been adapted for the stage from the novel written by internationally acclaimed children’s author David Almond. David has written extensively for children and twice been a Whitbread Children’s Award Winner: his novel Skellig took the prize in 1998. In 2010, he won the international Hans Christian Andersen Award for writing.

His books have been translated into more than 30 languages.

David said: “I love TSF’s production of Heaven Eyes. Fast-moving, fascinating, beautifully designed, directed and performed. It really does bring my story to life vividly.”

The play is suitable for ages nine and up.

Competition

Théâtre Sans Frontières is inviting all nine to 14-year-olds who have seen the show to take part in a short story writing competition.

Entitled ‘The Journey’, the story should be inspired by the stage production of Heaven Eyes and should be no more than 1,000 words long.

The deadline for entries is Monday, April 24.
