THEATRE: Coronation Street star in comedy thriller Busybody in Worthing

FORMER Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw continues her love affair with both live theatre and Worthing in particular with a trip to the Connaught Theatre with the comedy thriller Busybody (Tuesday, Februrary 15-Saturday, February 19).

Tracy appeared in panto in Worthing in Robinson Crusoe; she was also back in town in the summer.

“It was fantastic. I just love it. That’s how my romance with West Sussex started. It’s just so lovely down there and everybody is so friendly.

“I worked with a fantastic company and we had a wonderful time. For the panto, it was that time that we had snow before Christmas, but it was great.

I had just never seen much of the area before.

I was there from November to January and then back in the summer. It was great.”

Lovely, too, after nine and a half years of Coronation Street, to be doing theatre.

“When I look back on all that I have done since and all that I did before, I have done an awful lot more theatre than TV.

“I love theatre. You feel that you are really working. I like TV too, but it is so different.

“On TV, you can deliver your best take only for something to go wrong, and it will be the take that you don’t consider your best which gets used.

“In the theatre, you’ve got to get it right on the night – and it’s fascinating to see how a play develops once it is up and running.

“Once you have got over all the nerves, I love it when you really settle into it.”

Busybody by Jack Popplewell should offer everyone plenty of laughs and thrills, the tale of a meddlesome cleaning woman who keeps telling the cops to mind their business and who steps forward with the right evidence at every turn.

Tracy plays the boss’ wife: “She is having an affair with a couple of other men because her husband is not really paying her any attention.

“There is quite a big mystery about it. It is not very obvious. It just comes out through the investigation. There is a dashing young man that works for my husband and there is also a mystery man…”
