There's plenty left to do at Burgess Hill's Summer Festival

After a fabulous week of activities there's still plenty to enjoy during the final few days of Burgess Hill's Summer Festival.

On Thursday (June 9) there’s a chance to catch the last night of Jay Miller’s Circus before it heads out of town, with shows at 4.30pm and 7pm.

Thursday also offers a celebration of videogaming through the ages. Press Start To Join (4pm-7pm) features video game classics like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario, as well as today’s top games.

Readers can join a panel of leading crime writers and a former Chief Superintendent turned author at Killer Women – The Fine Blue Line. The writers will discuss whether accuracy and following police procedure matters in crime writing. The event takes place at Burgess Hill Library at 7pm. Tickets cost £4 including refreshments.

On Friday, little ones can enjoy some music and rhyme at Mermaid Melodies, which takes place at Burgess Hill Library (9.45am). Youngsters aged 7+ can embark on a Minecraft Treasure Hunt around the library on Saturday from 10.30am to 12pm and 1.30 to 3pm. Both events are free.

On Friday morning Jane Dore, researcher for the BBCs Who Do You Think You Are?, offers some tips on researching your family history. The Family History Coffee Morning starts at 10.30am in Burgess Hill Library.

On Friday evening, local historian Fred Avery gives an illustrated talk at Cyprus Hall. When the Navvies Came to Town is about the arrival of the railway in 1840 and its impact on the rural backwater of Burgess Hill.

Also on Friday evening, the Northern Hemisphere’s biggest, best and most authentic tribute to one of pop’s greatest bands, Re-Take That, bring their spectacular show to Martlets Hall (8pm).

On Saturday morning and Sunday, people can admire the work of local artists at the Open Art Studio at 60 Priory Road (10am to 5pm).

The popular Party in the Park returns to St John’s Park on Saturday, from 12pm to 8pm. This free afternoon of live music provides hits from six decades, from the ’50s to the present day.

On Saturday evening the festival welcomes one of the UK’s greatest performers – Des O’Connor, with a brand new show celebrating his stage and screen career.

The festival concludes on Sunday with free family fun at the Summer Fayre in St John’s Park (11am-4pm). There will be a free Children’s Tea Party in celebration of The Queen’s 90th Birthday and many other attractions.
