VIDEO: Actor Richard Willis returns to the Stables in Hastings Old Town

The actor, who has led a long career in theatre, is starring in Strolling Player on Sunday, September 6 from 7pm at the venue in The Bourne.

Strolling Player is a kaleidoscope of personal memories from Richard’s career and hectic personal life.

The cast includes film stars, knights of the Realm, Dr Who and an American president.

Richard has a long career in British theatre and television.

In 2000 he moved to New York and appeared on Broadway and in TV’s Law & Order. In 2008, he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he played the Father in the Canadian production of the West End’s The Railway Children.

Performing Strolling Player in Hastings is also a homecoming for both him and his director, Robert Richmond, as Robert was born and raised in Hastings and belonged to the Stables Theatre.

Richard’s brother who owns The Lilac Room on George Street, and Richard’s mother, who has directed and appeared in many Stables productions, have lived in Hastings for more than 40 years.

Richard, who currently lives in Toronto, Canada, last appeared at the Stables in 1994 in Kiss & Tell.

He said: “I’m really nervous but looking forward to spending an evening with friends and family and enjoy being back in the Old Town in Hastings.”

Another special event to mark the homecoming will take place at the Electric Palace Cinema in Hastings Old Town. At 6pm, an hour before the performance of Strolling Player at the Stables Theatre, a screening of Dreadful Sorry will take place. This is a short film staring Richard and was directed by Robert Richmond. Robert will introduce the screening at 5.50pm.
