Hide AdHaving trained in clowning, physical theatre, and circus, it was a natural progression to use physical comedy to engage with our audience. It’s the most fun you can have while wearing overalls!
What do you think gives the Dummies a broad appeal across generational barriers?
We didn’t create the show specifically for kids, so there are a lot of jokes and pop culture references that resonate across generations. Everyone from toddlers to grandparents finds something to giggle at.

What inspired you to work in circus, and what do you enjoy most about it?

Hide AdWe love showing off our tricks while still caring for the audience. It’s not just about us performing stunts but making sure it connects with the audience on a deeper level. Plus, who doesn’t love playing with rubbish bins?
What are some of the biggest challenges you faced in creating this piece?
This show was our first project straight out of circus school. The biggest challenge was actually affording to create it. It was born in 2013 and has been touring since. We’ve been quite privileged to keep it going without too many hurdles.

Summarise the show in three words.
Fun, Funny, Funtastical!
What do you hope audiences will take away from this show?
We want them to escape their daily lives and join us on a journey of play and joy with rubbish bins. It’s all about finding magic in the mundane and laughter in the least expected places.
The Trash Test Dummies are at the Pavilion Theatre Sunday, July 21. The show is suitable for ages 5+. Be sure to put your bins out and book your family tickets for this hilarious show.
