Trio of films about Hastings’ art and music legends

All three of these well known local artists have made their homes in Hastings but have connections worldwide.

Mark made the first of the three films about artist Laetitia Yhap after discovering one of her paintings in a second hand shop in Hastings. He soon became aware of her considerable reputation as a painter of the fishermen, at a time when the industry was changing to face the realities of the modern world.

The second film in the trilogy is about legendary local artist and clock maker Roland Jarvis, and continues the theme of what makes an artist tick.

Roland could be described as the last Cubist and the film investigates through interviews, the two sides to this prodigously talented man.

Trevor Watts, the free jazz saxophonist who provided the music for Roland’s film, was the next and final subject in the Trilogy. Trevor has an international reputation as one of the founding fathers of improvised music.

Much travelled and with vast experience of the intricacies of spontaneous music, Trevor was a natural subject to conclude the cycle. There will be a discussion and Q&A with the three artists and director on the evening.
