VIDEO: Chef to cycle 394 miles for injured soldiers

Owen Currie will cycle the route between May 29 and June 3 for Help for Heroes which goes from London through to Amsterdam and finishes in Brussels.

“My cousin Ricky had to have implants to get his hearing back when he was in the army about three years ago,” said the 32 year old.

“Help for Heroes is such a good cause so I thought I’d give something back as they’ve helped my family.

“My grandfathers and uncle were also in the army and not knowing if they were coming back was hard so it’s nice to be able to do something.”

Owen, who lives in Orchard Road, has been a keen cyclist for five years and cycled 300 miles from London to Paris for charity two years ago.

He added:“I’ve been training since November cycling, swimming and walking but I struggled last month with the snow.

“I’m looking forward to it now but I think my biggest challenge will be the wind in Brussels at that time of year.

“I hope to do it in a reasonable time and hope to raise £1500 but the more the better.

“Even if someone can donate a pound it’s worth it for the good cause and I’m paying for all the costs of the trip including hotels myself so all of the money raised goes to the charity.”
