Video: fun and sport for Lions clubs

The event, which was organised by the Lions clubs at Crawley, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Henfield, Billingshurst and Horsham, is in its 18th year and has proved popular with those who take part.

Guests included Crawley mayor Cllr Keith Blake, Horsham District Council chairman Cllr Leonard Crosbie and Haywards Heath mayor Cllr John Sabin.

The Lions clubs jointly funded the event, which brought together 120 people from organisations such as Outreach3Way, at Ifield Hall, Burnside in Burgess Hill and Court Meadow at Cuckfield.

They were split into 12 teams and took part in six games. In proper It’s A Knockout tradition, each team could play a joker – which they had made themselves - during one of the games to secure double points.

Organiser Richard Johnson, of Haywards Heath Lions, said: “This is something the Lions have done nationally. I think it’s a way of putting something back into the community and giving the people who would not normally have the opportunity to do something like this the chance to take part.”

Gary Davies, of the Crawley Lions, said: “It was a wonderful day and Keith Blake presented all the certificates at the end. It is most certainly something these people look forward to – the main thing that was on their lips when they left was ‘see you next year’.

“It’s without a doubt one of the high points in their calendar.”
