Last month Horsham District Council unveiled proposals for the Broadbridge Heath Quadrant, which would see a new leisure centre and retail building built on the site of the bowls clubs’ home.

While some bowls facilities might be provided within a new leisure facility, members feel these would be insufficient to meet the needs of their club.

John Coghlan, chairman of the club, said: “The members want replacement facilities and they deserve it and it’s for them we are putting forward their arguments.

“This just shows the depth of feeling in this bowls club for the continuation of a proper bowls club.”

Bowlers of all ages gathered at the bandstand, and, wielding home-made banners and placards, marched down West Street to the Shelley Fountain and then back to the Carfax.
