Campaigners used a former fire appliance today (Thursday August 1) in their latest attempt to hamper oil exploration drilling work at Balcombe.

The machine was stationed as temperatures soared in the heatwave and campaigners continued to camp at the site just south of the village.

Arrests were made earlier this week and celebrity campaigners paid visits to the protesters to support them.

Energy Caudrilla will drill to check for oil deposits and would require special approval if it intended to use the hydraulic fracturing technique at the site in the future.
