Members of Haywards Heath’s St Francis Hockey Club celebrated this season’s victories in champions’ style on Saturday.

One of the largest clubs in Mid Sussex with four senior sides and a junior team, the club’s players took part in an open top bus tour through the high street and surrounding villages to celebrate their successful season when both 1st XI and 2nd XI teams won their prospective leagues.

The unique achievement in the club’s history means the 1st team will be playing in the highest division of the Sussex Open League next year.

St Francis, which has been around for 50 years and is based at the Princess Royal Hospital site, now believes it is the largest sports club in Mid Sussex.

Last year its junior team received a grant from the Gatwick Communities Trust Fund funded by Gatwick airport
