Whitesnake founder Micky Moody returns to Coolham

Micky is returning to play Coolham Village Hall again on Saturday, March 14.

But this time he’s performing in a trio and will offer an intimate evening of laid back electric/acoustic blues with a twist of sultry soul.

Micky is regarded as one of the best slide guitarists around with a distinctive vocal style.

Besides Whitesnake he is a former member of Juicy Lucy, the Moody Marsden Band and Company Of Snakes, to name but a few.

Micky has performed alongside many big names including Chris Farlowe, Roger Chapman, Elkie Brookes and Eric Burdon in a career spanning almost fifty years.

He is also an accomplished songwriter and co-wrote Whitesnake’s worldwide hit ‘Fool For your Loving’. At Coolham, he will be accompanied by Ali Maas on vocals and Pete Rees on bass.

Ali is originally from Horsham and has gained a reputation as a powerful blues and rock vocalist. As well as being a member of Micky’s band, she also has her own gigging blues rock band.

Pete Rees is a well respected bass player, having been the regular bassist for Gary Moore until his untimely death. He is also an in demand session man and has worked with Bobby Tench and Papa George.

Opening the evening will be Sussex-based singer and guitarist Nigel Bagge and violin and mandolin player Mike Piggott. They will be joined for a couple of numbers by percussionist Marianne Hillier-Brook and keyboard player Rob Millis.

Nigel started out playing music by the Shadows but then the legendary John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers album with Eric Clapton changed everything and he turned his attention to the blues. He became a professional musician in the 1970s and has since worked with Peter Green, Chris Farlowe and Miller Anderson as well as fronting his own band and duo.

Mike Piggott’s professional career began playing the guitar, and occasional violin, with soul, blues and reggae bands in the London club scene of the early 1970s but a chance meeting with Stephane Grappelli proved to have a major impact on his future career as a musician. Mike is now regarded within the jazz fraternity as one of the finest living exponents of the violin.

With their combined experience and pedigree this awesome duo should be a perfect fit for the laid back atmosphere of this event.

The gig starts at 8pm (doors open at 7.15pm).

Tickets cost £20 with a fish and chip supper or £15 without. There is no licenced bar so people are advised to bring their own drinks and refreshments.
