A warm welcome from the Caer Gwent family to yours
In this article, care home manager Clare Feest speaks to one of our residents and his family about deciding to move to Caer Gwent.
First impressions
We know that moving to a care home can be a big decision that impacts the whole family, so it is important to take time to research all the options and discuss them with your loved ones. For one of our residents, John, and his daughter, Gillian, visiting Caer Gwent and meeting the team provided valuable reassurance.

Then we visited several rooms and spoke to lots of people. As soon as we saw my room and the windows looking out across the gardens, that was it.”
Gillian adds: “It was all just perfect. I felt Dad would be happy there, but I didn’t want to influence him, I just wanted him to be happy. When he said he wanted to move to Caer Gwent, I felt that it was the right place for him.”
A forever home
For many of our residents and their loved ones, being able to relax and put down roots is an important part of the decision. Providing a forever home with fully inclusive nursing care that adapts to our residents’ needs means they can focus on enjoying life and spending quality time with their loved ones. John says: “Knowing that I’d found a forever home was an important thing for me, as I didn’t want to rely on the family or for them to worry about me.”
John quickly settled into his room and has even added some personal touches to make it feel like home. Gillian says: “The staff are always smiling and they’ve really taken to Dad. You can ask a question, and it’s sorted – it’s amazing. I’m so happy to know that dad can feel content for the rest of his life.”
Somewhere to thrive

John explains: “My family are part of it here – they can drop in whenever they want. My grandson and his children often visit, there are various places for us to go and the lounge is very nice.”
Gillian adds: “If Dad isn't around when we call, it’s because he’s getting involved in the entertainment or having tea in the garden. Last week I called him, and he said, ‘I can’t talk for long, I’m going to listen to a singer!’. He’s enjoying all the activities and looking forward to some trips out. Dad’s enjoying life in a place he can thrive.”
