The McPhersons team have partnered with B1G1 to incorporate giving into their daily business. B1G1 (Buy1GIVE1) was founded in 2007 when a group of business owners realised it was too difficult to give back effectively while running their own businesses.

At McPhersons, it works by rewarding every client with a donation to one of the B1G1 projects. To start with, for each new client, either a goat will be donated to a family in Kenya or an Indian child will be educated for a year.

Says Ainsley Gill, McPhersons director; “What we liked about B1G1 was that the projects help people to help themselves. For example, the goat comes with breeding infrastructure, and whilst the breeding programme is underway, a small amount of income can be generated through the sale of goats milk and meat allowing a family to become more self-sufficient. Not only this, 100% of our donations go directly to the B1G1 projects around the world.”

On top of the new client donations, McPhersons have also decided to donate a percentage of all their fees to B1G1 projects. In their first week, they have provided bookkeeping skills to women in Malawi, internet access to orphans in Nepal, equipment and books for schools in Ethiopia, water, food and clothing for disadvantaged children, sewing machines for women in Bangladesh and much more.

The giving really doesn’t have to be in huge amounts. It is measured by ‘impacts’. Every small donation creates an impact and all the small businesses doing this is certainly making a real difference. B1G1 partners have currently made over 56 million impacts around the world.
