Bonney's and Battle Deli, in High Street, Battle, said it made its decision due to impatient customers who had been unwilling to wait.

In a statement, Battle Deli said: "Due to some unexpected behaviour from customers, and the mounting unprecedented pressure on our staff we have decided to withdraw from the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.

"Whilst being thankful for the huge support we’ve had we feel we are unable to continue with our great customer service and produce meals to our usual high standard.

"We are also concerned our Covid-19 policies are being ignored as people are not sticking to the guidelines due to being impatient and unwilling to wait.

"We would rather look after the staff (taking some pressure off) and be able to continue with our good food, customer service, care & safety.

"Thank you for all the continued support and understanding."

The government scheme, which has given customers 50 per cent off food on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August, does not apply to takeaway food.
