Bognor Regis businesses pay up to keep free parking

Continued free parking looks a certainty in Bognor Regis.

The town’s traders have unanimously agreed to put in £7,000 towards the cost of extending the current scheme for another year.

Their decision follows an agreement in principle from Arun District Council and Bognor Regis Town Council to carry on backing the initiative.

The go-ahead from the Bognor Regis Traders’ Association was given to Arun just ahead of last Monday’s deadline.

It means there is nothing to stop the charge-free two-hour parking being extended for 12 months beyond the current end date of November 30.

Chris Heaps, a leading member of the association, said: “It’s a very positive move. If we have the £7,000, we have got the scheme. I am very pleased with that.

“This is a commitment from Bognor’s traders that they support free parking.”
