Starting in March this year, Dark Star will be raising money by selling certain lines in the brewery shop, including a new Dark Star Foundation T-shirt.

Staff will also be taking donations from people who attend free brewery tours.

There will be a string of fundraising events, including the ‘Spin Up in a Brewery’ cycling event in May and Hopfest - a three day festival of music and beer, which will be held in September.

Other special events are being planned, details to be announced in the coming months.

James Cuthbertson of Dark Star said: “It’s our intention for The Foundation to work in three key areas:

“One, providing funds to pubs to assist in their fundraising efforts – a recent study from PubAid shows that pubs raise over £106m for charity each year, and we want to help pubs to achieve even more.

“Two, we’ll provide seed funding for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, who in turn will be asked to ‘pay it forward’ when they have their business off the ground – assisting another enterprise.

“Three, we’ll issue funds to good causes / charities, based on their submissions and subsequent recommendation of the Foundation’s panel, a team of people providing the moral compass.

“The Foundation is overseen by a passionate board of people with a shared passion for helping improve the fabric of our communities – a passion aligned with the role played by pubs up and down the country.”

The Foundation will officially launch in March this year, and submissions for funding will be considered from October.
