BUSINESS AWARDS 2015: Family connection to lifetime achievement

ANDREW Moore has a soft spot for the lifetime achievement category in the Observer and Gazette’s annual business awards.

In 2009, his father Michael won the award before following it up with a win at the Southern Business Awards.

Now, the owner of Andrew McDowall has sponsored that same category for the past three awards.

“It boosts the profile of our company,” he said of sponsoring the awards.

“It gives the staff something to work towards. It gives them something to talk about with customers and customers like to know you’re involved with it.”

The ladies and gentlemen’s tailors and outfitters shop has been based in Chichester’s North Street since 1944, with Andrew and his father taking over the business in 1982.

The popular outfitters offers made-to-measure items of clothing and has a comprehensive stock.

Anything can be made to measure from a full suit to an individual waistcoat.

As well as made-to-measure, it has a vast range of items for hire, including wedding and evening wear.

As well as now being a big supporter of the Observer and Gazette business awards, the outfitters is also a frequent entrant, walking away with a number of accolades in previous years.

It won retailer of the year in 2011, 2009 and was highly commended in 2008.

It also triumphed in the customer service category in 2010 and was highly commended in 2013, 2011 and 2008.

“We’ve got something right but I don’t know what it is yet,” said Andrew.

He explained why he was always so keen to support the business awards.

“It draws people’s attention to how many good local businesses there are around,” he said.

“It’s not about having to go to London or online. 
There are lots of good-quality businesses that give good-quality service and products that are under your nose.

“I think it’s important for everybody to shout about it.”
