Network Rail will be carrying out the upgrades between December 25 and January 1 2014.

A revised Southern service will operate during the Christmas and New Year period, and Gatwick Express services will not run between December 25 and January 1.

David Scorey, Southern Rail’s performance director, said: “This investment along our mainline to London will make it more reliable and help our trains run on time.”
