Winning Steyning & District Food & Drink Festival shop windows revealed

Wonderful window displays have been created for the Steyning & District Food & Drink Festival, featuring a bubble bath for teddy bears, wedding breakfast, Land Girls and picnics. Andrew Griffith, Arundel and South Downs MP, had the job of judging the winners and said everyone deserved a prize.

Businesses had to reflect the theme of food and drink in their windows, with separate categories for the foodie and non-foodie shops. The Cobblestone Tea House adopted the theme Dig for Britain and waiting staff were dressed as Land Girls for judging day, seeing them claim first prize in the foodie category. Justin and Sarah Brown at Raft worked with their interior designer, Amy Olszak, to create Breakfast in Bed, complete with toast bunting, and took top prize in the non-foodie category.

Other foodie winners were Truffles in second place with a detailed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, The Little Sweet Shop in third place with its plates of food, including a full English breakfast, all made out of sweets, and The Sussex Produce Company was highly commended for its superb display of fresh produce. Winners of the non-foodie category included LJ Creations in second place with an intricate miniature tea-time display and Foundry Cast Iron in third place with its ‘bears getting ready for their picnic’ bath tub scene. Baby Boutique, which displayed characters from The Very Hungry Caterpillar, all hand knitted by owner Joyce Pinkus, and the St Barnabas House charity shop’s Wedding Breakfast were both highly commended.

The festival continues until October 3, including The Great Steyning Bake Off competition running online from September 26 to 29. Visit steyningdistrictfooddrinkfestival.co.uk for more information.
