That’s the message this week from Eastbourne business leaders who are urging shoppers to support shops and businesses in the town in light of the second lockdown announced by Boris Johnson at the weekend.

In responding to the latest government lockdown, Stephen Holt of Your Eastbourne BID said, “This year it is more important than ever to support our local High Street.

Retailers, restaurants and beauty parlours all provide our town with jobs, they provide our town with the variety that visitors want and they are the lifeblood of our community. This Christmas, give to your High Street.

“Many businesses have quickly adapted and people will already be able to buy online from them and utilise services such as click and collect. The government has also said the lockdown will end on December 2 so save your Christmas shopping until then.”

Christina Ewbank from the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce said, “This year it is more important than ever to support Eastbourne’s High Street, and buy local online.

“When buying in our town, shoppers are protecting someone’s job, providing for someone’s child, and making our town a better place. Please – don’t buy from online retailers who don’t pay their taxes, support your town, and buy local online.”
