A date has been set for Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre to re-open in a new location.

The TIC is moving from Cornfield Road to the Welcome Building next to the Congress Centre in the Devonshire Quarter and be open for business from 10am Monday September 7.

Eastbourne council confirmed the news on Thursday.

The authority’s lead member for tourism and enterprise Margaret Bannister said, “Since its opening in 1990 we have been dedicated to providing state of the art services at Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre, ensuring the way in which we supply information has continued to evolve. However, as the use of the digital world has increased over recent years, the Cornfield Road location has experienced a steady decrease in footfall.

“In addition to this, funding cuts by central government to local authorities has further jeopardised the future of our Tourist Information Centre.

“We recognise the essential services the TIC provides. In order to continue offering these services the decision has been made to create a new Visitor Services team, within the Welcome Building, at the Devonshire Quarter.

“This relocation will allow us to combine the council’s tourism visitor services into one multifunctional team. They will continue to have a wealth of information available for both residents and tourists, while significantly reducing the cost of these services.

“Over the past 30 years we have welcomed more than five million visitors to our TIC and we are looking forward to serving even more for years to come.”

The council says the new Visitor Centre will continue to offer the same services including ticket sales for theatres, third party events, bus tickets and souvenirs.
