Nicholas Lavender, 31, of Reynolds Road, Eastbourne, has been charged with failing to comply with direction to close or restrict entry to premises in England to control coronavirus transmission.

Sussex Police said he has been released on bail to attend court in March.

The charge followed a raid by police officers on a gym in Eastbourne earlier this month when a number of people were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

Police say those people have been released with no further action.

In addition, a police spokesperson said that four directors of the business are being issued with Community Protection Warnings which prevents them from opening or allowing anyone to use the gym, in order to stop ongoing breaches of the government’s coronavirus regulations.
