Eastbourne Pier is set to reopen on April 12 along with its shops.

New units have also been built on the pier.

Pier owner Abid Gulzar said, “You can see it even from outside, there are units built. Everything is completely fresh. It has been painted and decorated. We have done lots of work.”

The pier’s gaming room and jazz lounge have also been improved, although the former is set to open at a later date due to government guidelines.

Mr Gulzar said, “The new units we have built, the repairs we have done, it is not easy. It was not easy but I went on and on and we have achieved it and you will see.

“The gaming room is one of the best. Everything has been taken out and completely redecorated. All of the machines are the latest. They are the best and the latest.

“The jazz bar is absolutely beautiful and excellent. I am very proud.

“It has been done very nicely and the gift shops are also very nice and I think there is a lot more we can do. So I have got one or two more surprises which I am going to bring to the town.”

Julie Palmer, who owns The Gift Box and The Candy Shop on the pier, also said the former jazz lounge had been renovated on social media saying there will be outside seating for 300 people.

Ms Palmer said, “I have got another shop in Terminus Road as well, just at the top near Harry Ramsden’s, so obviously all three have been closed for forever it feels like so I am very excited to get it all back open again.”

Along with the gift shops, there will also be a new vegan bar.

There is also set to be a new coffee shop and fish and chip shop reopening on the pier.

Ms Palmer also said there had been a refurbishment to an existing gift shop while a new ‘candy’ store and handmade nautical gift shop are also set to open.

With the changes, all outlets will now be independently run and Mr Gulzar expects there will be an increase in domestic tourists visiting the pier.

Mr Gulzar said, “This year I am expecting a lot of Londoners and English people coming down to their own seaside resort rather than going to Portugal or Spain.”
