An Eastbourne garage has been served an enforcement notice by town planners over redevelopment of the site.

The Old Town Service Station in the High Street installed a new canopy above the forecourt of the premises earlier this year.

But it later transpired the garage owners had not recently applied for planning permission for the development.

A planning application was submitted to Eastbourne council in 2017 but permission was turned down.

In the enforcement notice – served on September 9 – the council says the installation of the canopy has breached planning controls.

It states the canopy is visually bulky, stark and an overbearing structure, has a detrimental impact on the Old Town Conservation Area and furthermore that planning condition should not be given.

The council has given the garage owners – which comes under the Power company – two months to take the canopy down.

Power has been approached for a comment.
