For several weeks residents living in the area said they had complained to the store in Lottbridge Drove and the head office that trolleys had been abandoned by customers.

The residents said young people were then throwing them in roads with cars swerving to avoid them.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s Environment First team also complained to the store and asked managers there to arrange for them to be collected.

On Friday morning, the store issued a statement saying it was aware of the problem and looking to rectify the situation.

A spokesperson told the Herald, “We were made aware of an issue with trolleys being taken from our Eastbourne store and have had these collected after speaking with local residents.

“We thank those involved for bringing it to our attention and will continue to monitor this.”
