The lifting of Covid restrictions as of today (Monday, April 12) means Jane and her team can once again pull pints and serve traditional pub grub at the popular Murrell Arms, in Yapton Road, Barnham – but only in the beer garden.

A change in hospitality restrictions means pubs, restaurants, cafés and bars will be allowed to host parties of up to six, or of two households, in outdoor areas.

For pub-goers there will be no requirement for substantial meals to be served alongside alcohol, and no curfew, but the need to eat and drink while seated will remain.

Jane has worked at the pub, which dates back to 1866, in many different capacities for the past 34 years.

And she says she has never felt quite so excited at the prospect of serving drinks once more.

Jane said: “The Murrell is very at the heart of the community and many people tell us that they feel lost without it.

“It’s going to be fantastic to see all of our regulars back again after three months or so of being closed.

“We understand fully the need to have closed our doors due to the lockdown brought about by the pandemic and now we’re hopeful that the road map will continue to give us more and more freedoms back.

“We have a spacious beer garden with plenty of room and plenty of tables.

“Of course, we are hoping the weather is with us and people can sit outside enjoying a drink without being too cold.

“It is only April after all. But I think that with people having been away for so long, they’ll be more than happy to put up with the temperature if it is a little chilly.

“We will certainly raise a glass or two to help welcome people back make no mistake about that. We can’t wait.”
