Valentine's Day at Kingsland House in Shoreham

Love is in the air at a Shoreham care home

Love was in the air at a Shoreham care home on Valentine’s Day, as staff and residents celebrated with cakes and treats. Kingsland House care home, in Kingsland Close, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets on Sunday and a Valentine’s Day display was created, filled with hearts.

Karen Williams, general manager, said: “Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones, either using our visiting suite or on a video call.” She added that residents liked having a helping hand in creating the display. They also enjoyed creating a Kingsland House heart out of photos from last year, which has become a talking point of the lounge and brings back lovely memories.

Residents have been baking tasty sausage rolls and cinnamon whirls, and Chocolate Cake Day was celebrated on January 27. Sarah Hiscock, activities co-ordinator, builds the programme around residents’ personal interests and hobbies, such as wildlife, gardening, art classes, flower arranging and skittles.

Karen said: “In these unprecedented times, it’s nice for residents to be filling their day with positive pastimes. We provide a wide range of physical, mental and spiritual activities as part of the life enrichment programme for residents. We have also adapted ways to keep residents active, while ensuring that the group activities are smaller, adhering to social distancing advice.”
