The opening will be for the gym and classes only with no pools or swimming lessons open at this time.

A spokesperson for the centre, which was taken over by Eastbourne council during lockdown, said, “We are aware this will be disappointing news to some members, however customer and staff safety is of the upmost importance, and we do not currently feel able to open the pools and changing rooms in a safe and controlled manner.

“We will constantly be reviewing the situation in a hope to get our pools open and lessons running as soon as possible.”

The gym will be open from 6.30am-9pm weekdays and from 7am-6pm at weekends.

The spokesperson said, “We will be spacing out the equipment to take up part of the sports hall to ensure sufficient distancing and sanitising stations, and a strict cleaning routine will be in place. We will be asking all members to wipe down equipment before and after use too as an additional measure for everyone’s safety.

“There will be a revised class timetable in place. The class studio will be set up for indoor cycling to run on a regular basis with the bikes spaced apart and time between sessions for cleaning. All other classes will run in the sports hall with sufficient space around to allow for distancing and time between sessions for cleaning.”
